Star Trek: Odyssey
Convoy Ships
Sikarian Ships
Posel
The Posel started its life as a pleasure barge, an interstellar cruise ship of sorts with fine dining, entertainment, shopping, and all the trappings of luxury. It is no longer that, in the strictest sense. Much of the space reserved for amusing oneself has been converted into large-scale dormitories. The wide thoroughfares are packed with people and cargo. Its shuttlebays are still full of many vistors’ shuttles, which are often used in order to relocate people within the fleet while at warp speed.
Its council representative was chosen by a popular vote election. Given that the ship carried so much of the people, this seemed the fairest choice. And the people chose Vavel, a former playwright. Sikarian culture reveres storytellers, so his election when the council was formed was not particularly surprising. He is a uniquely compassionate delegate on the council.
- Scale 6, making it larger than Odyssey. It is both longer and wider.
- Armed with powerful, short-range, concealed phaser cannons, meant to be weapons of last resort.
- Carries around 8,000 refugees, via occupying all available private space and using hammocks, hot-bunking, and people quartering in places not meant for it.
Harge
The Harge was christened the year the Kazon initially started attacking Sikarian ventures. Originally slated as a ship dedicated to forming the next long-range colony, the siege of their local colony worlds put the project on indefinite hold. It was still maintained, with a skeleton technical crew doing system checks and maintenance at regular intervals. It still is equipped with the workbees designed for construction in a vacuum, though there are few pilots among the Sikarians rated for them.
Diena Otel is the senior member left of the Harge’s crew. Her official title was maintenance supervisor, but she handled the schedules of the entirety of the maintenance crew. Because of this, she has been made de facto captain.
- Colony ship, arranged for long-term, minimal comfort passenger hauling.
- Scale 5, slightly thinner than the Odyssey, but almost twice as long.
- Retrofitted after stardate 49161 with a pair of independently powered phaser banks, fore and aft. While these are no match for a dedicated warship, the ship can now defend itself in a pinch.
- Carries around 3,000, occupying the colonist berths as well as the crew berths.
- Has had most of the Sikarian tricyclic plasma reclamation systems stripped from it, making it easier to detect and a little less fuel efficient than the rest of the convoy ships, but it is now the fastest Sikarian ship at warp speeds.
Marce
Marce is equipped with a sensor array equivalent to a Nova-class survey ship. Similar to that Federation ship, Marce is not equipped for battle. While originally equipped with phaser arrays, they were removed and passed on to a now-destroyed Sikarian Naval frigate. Left in drydock, the ship is a very capable learner, and most of the scientists left among the Sikarians have congregated here.
Marce’s official representative is a mild-mannered but accomplished geologist named Fassil. The ship has chosen him based upon his particular skills in logistics and management, and less upon any political acumen, which makes sense based upon his records. However, this is also the ship Eudana has ‘retired’ to serve upon, and so many believe that Fassil speaks her words with his voice on the council.
- Survey Ship, a remnant of the scientific arm of the Sikarian Assembly.
- Scale 4, small in scale, and purpose-built.
- Retrofitted after stardate 49161 with a pair of independently powered phaser banks, fore and aft. While these are no match for a dedicated warship, the ship can now defend itself in a pinch.
- Carries 600, double-berthed and sharing quarters.
- Good sensors, laboratories, a smaller compatriot to the Odyssey’s scanning ability.
Senel
The Senel is of similar make to the standard Sikarian transport, though it is much bulkier. As the ship was built to haul cargo and not passengers, the crew is relatively small. Nonetheless, the ship took on double the crew in order to ease the space concerns – it’s still very tight quarters aboard. Despite this, the Senel has become something of a central marketplace within the convoy, transferring goods and materials between individual ships in order to keep everything running smoothly. A grey market has naturally started springing up here as well.
Senel’s commander and representative was Carela Tann, a former associate of Labin’s before the exile. She was, by the Federation’s standards, a criminal, and her captaincy isn’t supported by anything but the meek agreement of her crew. Now her crew largely acts as council in her stead, despite having no physical threat behind it.
- Freighter, an older and more rugged class of ship.
- Scale 4, similar to the common class of Sikarian ship, just with a neck ringed in magnetized cargo containers.
- Armed with outdated (though effective) phasers
- Carries around 600 refugees, sleeping in empty containers as well as cramped bunks and hammocks.
- Simplest ship in convoy to upkeep.
Alanel
The Alanel is full of passengers – all of whom have no other close connections within the fleet. Most of the solo refugees took Captain Tchang up on the offer to live aboard the ship the fleet is frightened of. This makes the ship relatively comfortable in comparison to the living space aboard any of the other refugee ships, but the ship is also avoided by most of the fleet for the same reason.
The ship’s representative on the council is Naderen, a former member of the Sikarian security forces. He was discharged for dishonorable conduct, but has proven to be a reliable, if humorless, leader for the people who volunteered to travel aboard the Alanel.
- Transport, the most common type of Sikarian ship available prior to their fall.
- Scale 4, small, nimble, but designed with ample passenger space.
- – Retrofitted after stardate 49161 with a pair of independently powered phaser banks, fore and aft. While these are no match for a dedicated warship, the ship can now defend itself in a pinch. Additionally, it possesses upgraded shields gained during a previous refit.
- Carries around 600 refugees in tightly-packed but functional bunks. It is widely considered to be haunted.
- Strong warp drive, fastest of the convoy ships.
Miton
The Miton, like the Alanel, is a passenger transport primarily geared toward short-term transport. Luckily, the owner had modified the ship during the Kazon sieges to handle far more passengers and also take some fire. These modified shields are what separated the two transports, but the Starfleet refit of the Alanel has closed the gap.
Its representative is Kanel Goull, a relatively wealthy merchant and the only one of the council to have had control of their ship prior to the exile. He’s an adept smuggler, and is also fond of conspiracy theories, but he is dedicated to preserving Sikarian lives.
- Transport, the most common type of Sikarian ship available prior to their fall.
- Scale 4, nimble, but modified by its owner with stronger shields.
- – Retrofitted after stardate 49161 with a pair of independently powered phaser banks, fore and aft. While these are no match for a dedicated warship, the ship can now defend itself in a pinch.
- Carries around 600 refugees, assigned a double-handful to a room. Bunks have been jury-rigged throughout the ship’s quarters.
- Strong warp drive – just as fast as the Alanel.
Alien Ships
veS’targ “The Targ of War”
Appropriated from the Predator that carried Heklara and the rest of her clan, the Raider externally looks no different from the rest of the Kazon’s ubiquitous attack ships. But with Starfleet computers, transporters, and replicators installed, the ship is now a capable aid in protecting the fleet. The Klingons from the Jor took command of it, and utilize it as an advance scout for the fleet, ranging ahead of the fleet at higher speeds to see beyond their sensor range.
Its unique status in the convoy still affords it a seat on the council, which has been provided to Commander Plogh in order to speak for his Klingon brethren.
- Raider-class, the workhorse of the Kazon pirate fleets
- Scale three, smaller than a third the size of the Odyssey
- Equipped with phaser cannons and seven remaining plasma charges (mines), as well as masking circuitry which can make the raider difficult to detect
- Recent updates to the fleet’s security mean all the Klingons (save the cook) have relocated full-time to the veS’Targ.
- Retrofitting from a Type 8 shuttle has installed a two-person transporter, a replicator, and Starfleet control surfaces and computer systems
Jaret
The Jaret is extremely unique, as it is a ship out of time. Stolen from an abandoned Zahl anchorage in a timeline where the fleet desperately armed itself to challenge the Krenim Imperium, Carela Tann was afforded the ship by John Stewart when the Traveler merged timelines in “Broken Time”. A new addition to the fleet in terms of firepower and space, Tann has taken seriously her new role as protector.
- Cruiser, a ship designed for long-range defensive action.
- Scale 5, larger and more heavily armored than the Odyssey.
- Armed with phaser arrays and photon torpedoes
- Carries 1,500 crew aboard, bunks filled to capacity.
- Zahl construction emphasized physical survivability, allowing it to absorb serious punishment.
